Trying to update/repair this Curve 8520's software and I get the above error. What could be wrong?

Hey,
That means that the BlackBerry Desktop software was unable to download one or more of the .cod files through the Web-based Software Loading platform.

Workaround 1

Register the ole32.dll file.

For Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run window, type regsvr32 ole32.dll and click OK. A message indicates that the registration was successful.
  3. Restart the computer.

For Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7

  1. Click Start > All programs > Accessories.
  2. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  3. In the Command Prompt window, type regsvr32 ole32.dll and press Enter.
  4. A message indicates that the registration was successful.
  5. Restart the computer.

Workaround 2

Ensure that DCOM Server Process Launcher has been started.

For Windows XP

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the Run window, type services.msc and click OK.
  3. Locate the DCOM Server Process Launcher.
  4. If the service has not been started, click Start the service.
  5. Restart the computer.

For Windows Vista or Windows 7

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the search field below type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Locate the DCOM Server Process Launcher.
  4. If the service has not been started, click Start the service.
  5. Restart the computer.

Note: Ensure that the service is set to Automatic Startup. Right click the service > properties > In the Startup type select Automatic from the drop down menu.

i did both wrokround options and none of them worked im using bb 9780
